For a DSLR there's no better between Nikon and Canon. For point and shoots there's other very good brands such as Fuji, Sony, Panasonic, and Olympus.

Many people here have some kind of emotional attachment to Nikon and Canon.

Not one is better. As far as performance, they are about the same. People who have a black or white opinion on this are just going with an attachment to a brand. Whatever feels better to you is the one you should go with. I personally prefer nikon, but this is because my first camera was a nikon

I wud prefer Nikon becz it has stylish compact system cameras and continuous shooting speed makes gud camera and the main thing depends on how much our pocket allows u.

For the most part they are equal, but I'd now put Canon a bit ahead. What I've seen is that more commercial photographers are using Canon DSLRs - and I just saw an article showing the cameras used for best photos of the year and Canon outweighed Nikon. But that's for pro photographers in commercial high end photography. If you are the average person using a camera, either maker would be equal.
