Which is better for a beginner photographer, a Canon Rebel or a Nikon D3300?

I want to get into photography, gonna purchase a camera soon. I also want better video quality as well.

Don't bother.

If you didn't know that Sony shoot better video than either, that Pentax are better on paper, and that the only criterion that matters is how they feel in your hands, then you aren't ready for a DSLR.

The best camera in the world is a paperweight until you develop the skill and experience to use it properly.

Either will do. They are both excellent cameras. I got into Nikon because the most knowledgeable photography person I knew was a Nikon man. It could have just as easily been Canon or Pentax. Maybe it will work for you. Who do you know that is a knowledgeable photography person and what brand do they use?
