What's a great compact digital camera and a DSLR camera to buy?

I don't want to spend over 700 for either, i just want a really awesome camera! I need it to be able to take videos and playback with sound (so no Kodak Easyshares)…

i considered the Nikon s1100pj just because of the projector, but because it is solely touch screen i don't want it (touch screens have a tendency to freeze from time to time and that is not helpful at all)

So could you please tell me a Compact digital camera (like the regular point as shoots) and a DSLR if you know a good one in my price range.

The Canon Rebels are your best bet for a quality camera in your price range. Videos and pictures aren't available in cameras. With the cameras mentioned the pictures will really shine and the videos probably just a good rating>
