Nikon SLR Cameras

I'm looking to buy a DSLR (or even a great quality point and shoot) camera

I would like the ability to have a good video, but still shot are definitely more important. They will be of wildlife and people, so fps speed is pretty important. I'm on a college student budget, but thinking 400-800 as far as budget. I know this is pretty low for a dslr, but it's about the best I can do.

Should I go with a dslr even on this budget, or look at quality digital camera?
I'm a designer and the still show really need to be a good quality, but I'm not a professional photographer, obviously.

I know Nikon and Canon both have pretty decent options. Any advice is appreciated!

Also, are black Friday deal something to consider, or is it a waste of time to wait until then? I'm going on a trip in Jan so I can wait to purchase, that's not a big deal. I'd like to get it by Dec so I can have 2 months to experiment and play!

Canon EOS 350D, it's fairly cheap but a great camera!

I'm not sure what I'd recommend for that price range… I use a 7D and I LOVE it… But those run about $1, 200. However, this website may be of help to you:

Buy a well looked after Nikon D40 DSLR for a 1st "Real" camera. The menu system is a dream and it is so easy to master this camera and start getting great pictures. If you keep the camera in good condition you will have no problem selling it when you want to move up the camera scale to a better model.

Canon EOS XS and Nikon D3000 are around $450, but have no video.

Canon EOS T3, Nikon D3100 are around $500 and have video.

Pentax K-r is not as famous as them, but has 6fps and better AF performance for the same price of around $600.

So in all, you have Canon EOS T3, T2i, Nikon D3100 and Pentax K-r as your options. All have the same quality, colors etc. And Black Friday is usually just good for little cameras.
