What low aperture Nikon Lenses will be compatible with Canon EOS (550d)?

Hi! I've been busy searching for any low aperture lenses (preferrably 1.2-1.4 fstop) for my Canon 550d… But I'm not too interested in spending more than $150… So, that immediately cuts out any new lenses with AF. I looked at a canon FD lens, (50mm f/1.4) and that I'd only need to buy an adapter for, but apparently, canon fd lenses DO NOT work well with EOS bodies because of some internal focusing issue. So I'm asking if anyone knows an old manual lens (preferably nikon---or anything other than canon) that works well with canon EOS bodies---obviously it will require an adapter, but if you know what type of adapter I should get too, that would be great!

Nikon lenses do not work with canon DSLR cameras.

A new Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 will fit your budget. There's very little advantage to getting an f 1.4 lens, especially if you have to manually focus it. That aperture will be very unforgiving of focusing error.

That's true, unforgiving is a good word and Nikon and Canon mounting systems are different so they don't work with each other.

I own a 50mm f/1.8 and I agree, the 4-tenths of a stop difference isn't enough to make any real difference. Some talk about the plastic construction of the Canon 50mm, the body is of plastic.
That will only be factor if you're a traveling pro who tends to be very rough on cameras and lenses.
That doesn't seem appropriate in this case.

Just for interest I did this with my 50mm as a low aperture / dof illustration… You may find it interesting.

If you don't mind manual focus then try "Zuiko OM series" lenses from 70's and 80's. They are all made in Japan, the best quality lenses you'll ever see. You can buy may be 3 or 4 used lenses for $150. You can also find an adopter from eBay. They do also f1.4 and even f1.2 if you can find.
And they are cheap, don't mean they are bad. Zuiko is a very high quality lens, not less than Canon or Nikon in any aspect.
