What is a Promaster Spectrum 7 Filter?
I recently received a Nikon N2000 film camera as a gift. However, it came with three filters that I'm unsure what they do, being that I'm new to photography.
One of them came in a box, but I'm not sure which one. The box says:
ZEITZ QUARTZ
GLASS MOLDED
HIGH RESOLUTION
COATED FILTER
The first filter I think is a protective cover sort of thing just so the lens doesn't get damaged. Please tell me if I'm wrong.
HAZE 52mm (UV) Made in Korea
The second and third filters I have no clue what the do. They are:
PROMASTER SPECTRUM 7 52mm C. S Made in Japan
ROLEV M. G. 49mm STAR
The star filter I would imagine will render any smallish light sources in an image into a 'starburst'. These were popular 'effects' filters from 35mm days.
The Promaster I'm not sure about - they made a number of different filter types, including coloured filters (for B&W photography - they enhance contrast), circular polarising filters, close-up dioptres, etc. The notation CS is what I'm unsure about (CL was, I think, their linear polariser).
You are right about the haze UV filter - it protects the lens principally, but in film photography it can help to reduce atmospheric haze a little as it reduces UV which affects film (but not digital).
Promaster Spectrum 7 is an entire line of products, so no help there. C. S. Is the important part of the designation, although I have no idea what it does just from the letters.
Google, however, knows everything. And Google says that is a cross screen filter, which is similar to the star filter. If you use Google to search for cross screen filter, then look at images, you will see what it does.
