What are some good ways to save money on buying nikon lens?

ALSO what is a good lens to buy? I kind of want one that will take good portraits but one that will also take good macros? If that is possible?
If I can't get portrait and macros what about portrait and landscapes? I don't know just throwing stuff out there.

Portrait and macro can be utilized with the same lens
i suggest
nikon 105mm f/2.8 micro
micro means you can utilize close focusing for macro shots
105mm is a good focal length for flattering, non distorted pictures. 105 also gives you a comfortable working distance fpr micro shots.
the one disadvantage is that this isn't a zoom lens, but the optics and price will be better than most zoom lenses out there.
My bias is that, because of price and optics, i rather carry 4 primes than have one zoom.
Alternative, use extention tubes with the lenses you have to get macro shots.

Buy used and gray market.
