Two questions ( due to all working except when press take pic button - no pic gets taken)

1.what's would the icon on screen that looks like a clock at 9:00 - small icon flashing? What is that little icon?

2. The camera was ordered online ( Nikon in NY)… Are there places locally to my area (no. Fl) to take digital cameras? I really hate to ship it off.

Other ideas why all is working but pressing snap pic button and seems to definitely click - takes shot- etc - but then look in pics and there's no pics saved.

p.s.chance a dropped camera was cause but not certain

If you've dropped it, it's probably toast - but try to find a local Nikon dealer and get his opinion.

No help from the manual (pdf version on disc ) ?

Dropping most compact cameras - not just Nikon - usually kills them. The only exception are the ruggedized cameras which are designed to withstand dropping.

The little icon you see means to wait as the camera is trying to do something. Your manual should give you more details as to what conditions it appears.

Dropping the camera almost certainly killed it. Next time get a neck or wrist strap (I actually use both). In the last 8 years I've not dropped a camera once. The biggest accident I've had was breaking a lens hood which got smashed by a microphone stand.

The leading causes of death for digital camera are dropping them or drowning them. You dropped yours so I'd say there's about a 99% chance you killed it. Unfortunately it will likely cost as much to have it repaired as it will to simply buy another camera. When you get your new camera immediately attach the wrist or neck strap and use it. You might want to consider a more rugged camera such as the Pentax Optio WG-2 or a similiar model from Olympus or Fuji.

Dropping camera was cause of it not working. A normal warranty will not cover misuse, unless it's a store warranty, maybe then. It will cost as much money to get it repaired as to buying a new one.

1. Self-timer mode. You set the camera on a tripod, press the shutter release button, then run into position to be included in the picture.

2. If #1 is correct, the camera does not need servicing.

Other answer:
Format memory card after copying all contents to your computer. If there's no memory card, install one.

If camera was dropped or no longer working, buy a new one. Repairs are more expensive.
