For the cost of the repair, you could buy 3 or 4 used lenses.

Just look for manual focus lenses in Nikon AI mount, eBay and just about any dealer who carries used stock will have any number of Nikon or third-party lenses for sale at silly prices.

Not likley. Look for lenses on the second hand market you need an Ai mount to work with the meter. Almost any lens made prior to 1999 will fit Nikon or third party brands. They come very cheap these days.

Depends on which lens.

You can buy an FM10 and lens with a warranty for around $150. Repairing a lens could be anywhere from $20-$200, and I wouldn't bother if it's a kit zoom lens as they are in pawn shops everywhere.

Craigslist is also a good source of unwanted film gear from the 60s-90s.

I'm sorry you've had a problem with your lens!

Is it the zoom lens that came with your FM10? These are plastic barrel lenses that were not made very well to begin with. Depending on what the actual damage is will determine the repair cost. Go to www. CameraRepair.com for a quote. If you really loved that lens, it may be worth having it repaired. It may cost as little as $30.So don't rule out repair as others here have suggested. They might be right too though, you just have to talk to a repair shop directly instead of asking people here who don't know the details.

As mentioned, you may also want to buy a good used Nikkor AI or AIS lens from a reputable camera shop such as KEH.com. There you'll get a 6 month warranty on the lens and have a wide selection from which to choose. If you buy from eBay or Craigslist, you may run into more technical problems and not have a way to return the lens. Older, all metal, manual Nikkor lenses are made very well though and you're not likely to have any issues with them. So I'd decide on a couple particular lenses you'd like to use and compare prices/warranties.

I highly recommend, if you don't have any other lenses, to buy a Nikkor 50mm 1.4, 50mm 1.8 or 50mm f2 in AI or AIS version. Your FM10 can also use Pre-AI lenses which are even cheaper but require an extra step in the metering process called Stop-Down Metering. If there's an expensive lens you want like a 50mm 1.2, you might want to buy it in Pre-AI (also called Non-AI) so that it's cheaper.

Likely, any of these lenses will actually outlive the camera itself as they are so well built.

Good luck and please email me directly with any questions at JohnnyMartyr@Hotmail.com

Buy another lens (and camera?) from eBay. Easier.
