Nikon SLR Cameras

I'm searching for a new digital camera? Had a Canon Rebel pre-digital?

Still want something I canup grade lenses with. Good for landscapes and urbanscapes but can take a good personal family photo.

Is canon rebel still good? I've heard Nikon is pretty good. Also since its just a starter, it doesn't have to be fancy and it can't be expensive.

Both the Canon Rebel and Nikon entry level cameras are good choices.

Visit the Nikon and Canon websites to learn about the entry level cameras the might fit your needs.

The major cost is going to be the lens you need for shooting spectacular landscapes and urbanscapes. You will see this when you start looking at the lenses available for those cameras.

Tokina makes some excellent third party lenses, you you may have a go at them to save some money

Do you still own lenses for your old Canon EOS Rebel? If so, then they will fit on any Canon DSLR.

Canon makes absolutely fine DSLRs. And there are no companies who currently make any bad DSLRs. For beginners/hobbyists cheaper entry level cameras are only made by 3 manufacturers. These are Canon, Nikon, and Pentax. All of them are excellent.

Most entry level DSLRs come with a kit lens - the standard one is usually the 18-55mm, it's good for general photography from landscapes, to groups to portraits.

Sounds like you haven't purchased any lenses yet! Strange you would want to change brands instead of getting better lenses. Did not do enough home work on your Canon purchase? Tell us what you have against it, maybe someone familiar with current Canon models can suggest an improvement for you. That way, you can buy the model (body only) that is more to your liking, use any or future lenses in the same mount, and save your Canon Rebel as a back-up camera. What you want to do seems like such a waste of money as you will take a big loss selling your Canon Rebel. I'm a Canon convert to Pentax brand, when digital came out. I'm very happy with my current model camera but I WILL up grade (more expensive Pentax model) when I decide to make my current Pentax DSLR my "back-up" camera.

T3i rebel. Works in a similar way and it will accept your old lenses! Also, its 350 to 400 dollars, which isn't too bad.
