Well the 55-300 isn't out yet, we don't really know how it performs. You don't share why you want to buy a lens. Impossible to answer this, just saying that I really like my 70-300 VR

55-300mm is a new lens which will available soon, so you have to wait for the reviews, but as far as I can tell it has a plastic mount and 70-300mm has a metal mount. I personally would stay away from long zooms like 55-300mm with cheap build quality and plastic mounts.
