Uv filter or lens hood for Canon T2i?

Kat

I have purchased a Canon T2i. I'm still unsure of everything I need. I have a bag, memory card, the camera (of course) and an extra lens (55-250). I have been doing some research and I can't figure out if i should get a lens hood or a uv filter. Any ideas? I will listen to anything else that I may need such as lens cleaners, extra battery, ect. I'm also for hearing any stories about your camera. And no I do not like Nikon, so if you have anything to say about Canon just get away from this question, thanks.

Added (1). I felt "compelled" to say "And no I do not like Nikon, so if you have anything to say about Canon just get away from this question" because I'm not switching and I posted a question earlier and like people were like Buy nikons Buy nikons. And I do not want nikon.

Personally I would go for the UV Filter.

Also the items that I would also would get are
Extra Batteries
Extra Memory Cards
Lens Fluid Cleaner
Microfiber Cloth
Tripod
Cable Release (Remote Control)

One thing that I had put into the Camera Bag is a small hand towel which comes quite useful.

A lens pen is a good idea. And I would use a lens hood rather than a UV filter. UV filters are more-or-less useless these days.

Too bad you have a fear of Nikon.

Are you saying that the 55-250 mm lens does not come with a lens hood?

You do know that the lens hood and UV filter are for the lens, NOT the camera, right?

You may not need an extra battery unless you plan on buying a vertical battery grip.

Here is what comes in the box with your fine Canon T2i/550D camera

EOS Rebel T2i Body
EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS II Lens
Eyecup Ef
Wide Strap EW-100DBIII
USB Interface Cable IFC-130U
AV Cable AVC-DC400ST
Battery Pack LP-E8
Battery Charger LC-E8E
EOS Digital Solution Disc and Instruction Manuals
"Great Photography is Easy" Booklet and "Do More with Macro" Booklet

Your lens will have a lens cap and rear lens cap.

Both those lenses use 58 mm filters. You will want to buy two UV filters to protect their front elements from sticky fingers.

I use both a UV(0) filter and a lens hood on my lenses.

Of course having an extra battery and extra memory cards is always a good idea.

I shoot with a Canon, but both Canon and Nikon make good cameras… The Nikon's just don't feel right in my hands but I don't have anything against them (actually, none of the Canon/Nikon entry level cameras feel right to me).

I don't understand why you felt compelled to say "I do not like Nikon, so if you have anything to say about Canon just get away from this question"

- I think Uv filter is better for you.
