Would any lens hood from a 52mm filter size work on my nikkor 35mm f/1.8G?
I'm obviously not refering to a canon lens hood, but from nikon. If any lens hood is a 52mm thread, will it fit? The hood (HB-46) that came with my lens broke and I'm looking for a metal one.
NO
Lens hoods are designed for specific focal lengths
Buying the wrong one will either cause vignetting or not do the job they are intended to do… Keep extraneous light from causing flare or ghosting.
This is the lens hood you need for your lens
No. I'd suggest amazon.com though. You maybe able to find a third party lens hood at half the cost. Nikon
really rips people off when it comes to lens hoods.
There are different kinds of lens hoods. You want one designed for wide angle lenses. Such lens hoods are more shallow in depth which prevents vignetting.
No. You have to get a hood specifically made for a 35mm lens. Longer hoods than necessary will introduce vignetting while shorter hoods are useless and a waste of money. Then there's the question of hood shape. Petal hoods are used only on lenses with front elements that do not rotate. If the front end of your lens turns as you focus it, use circular hoods.
