Thoughts on Nikon 1 J1 as starter camera?

Seems like quite good quality for the amound you pay, thoughts?

Sensor is too small, it's essentially the size of a large compact camera. Suddenly it doesn't seem such good value. Essenially, you have all the disadvantages of having a compact sized sensor, and the bulk of a system camera.

No dslr for that money as I told you earlier.

No EVIL camera is worth it's price. These are nothing more than way over rated, way over priced pocket toys that don't have a view finder but do happen to change lenses - big deal.

If you want a real camera save up your money and buy a real camera.

You can't buy a Nikon 1 for 300 pounds! Unless it's stolen! Besides, as the others have told you, it's not worth buying. I see it as an insult to the Nikon name, and they should remove it from the market.
Want a real camera? The cheapest you might find is the Nikon D3000.

As other has already suggested get the Nikon D3000 instead.
