Thinking of getting a new camera? - 1

I'm interested in buying a digital camera. Right now I have an old-fashioned nikon film camera. I LOVE it, but digital would be a nice addition and more practical camera. I'm confused about what to get with all of these options out there. Basically I'm looking for a place to start my search for a camera.
Should I stick with a nikon or is a cannon better?
What kinds of things should I be researching?
Do you have any favorite cameras?
Because I have a film camera would a digital SLR camera be a good choice because I can use the same lenses?

If you are shooting Nikon, I'd stick to Nikon. Nikon film lenses should fit nikon dslr's as well.***
If they are AF lenses you wouldn't want to use them on the entry level Nikons like the D3000 and D5000 series as they will have no auto focus. If they are AF-s lenses they will focus on those cameras.
The current Nikon lineup starts with the D3100 and goes up from there. The Nikon D7000 is the lowest priced Nikon with the auto focus motor in the body.

If you aren't looking to keep lenses, then either Nikon or Canon is awesome. They are the leaders in the industry. It's more about which one fits you better and feels right in your hands.

Budget will help and information on what lenses you currently have to know what they will or won't work with.

If you're looking for the same old 35mm film feeling you should look up for the Nikon D700 with is FX sensor, it is the equivalent of the 35mm film, 24 x 36. But the beast is very pricey but very very good, you can't shoot movie with it, it's only for photography.

Here is a full review of the beast http://www.dpreview.com/...nikond700/

Canon's PowerShot S95 is a pocket-sized camera aimed at enthusiasts who want a compact model which doesn't compromise on features. Announced in August 2010, it replaces the earlier PowerShot S90 which revived the old S-series with a new look and direction. The new model makes a number of small, but worthwhile updates over the S90, including 720p HD video with stereo sound, in-camera HDR, Hybrid Image Stabilisation, Dynamic Range enhancement, Tracking AF, new special effects, a choice of aspect ratios and an improved finish.
