Should I bring my dslr camera on holidays?
I'm wondering about bringing my nikon dslr camera on holidays for one week this summer.I'm concerned about it getting stolen and i won't be getting insurance on it in the meantime… Is the heat from the sunshine going to damage it? Is it going to be hastle carrying it around it around all day… I have not even had the had the camera a year yet so i'm a little concerned what might happen. I do have an ok Samsung Galaxy s3 which will take ok ish photos
What's your experience bringing a dslr on holidays? Any tips or advice? Much appreciated and thanks
I have a Nikon D7000. Trust me, I understand the paranoia of traveling with your camera, but if you don't take it, then what is the point of having it? I would not worry about the heat and sunshine, just keep it protected. Is it going to be a hastle to carry it around? One way to find out. Just carry it around your town for a day taking photos. I have no problem carrying mine around. All things being equal, most likely nothing is going to happen.
In my experience, I have discovered that my holiday photos turn out much better when I bring my camera.
Do NOT carry a "camera bag" They scream, "I have a camera inside, steal me!"
Instead, carry your camera and lenses in a backpack.
I have carried my cameras all over the Caribbean, West Africa, England, most of the US and Mexico
I have never had a problem. Just don't go around flashing it in sketchy places
Shoot in RAW, that way you will have the highest resolution images when you get home.
I also carry my notebook computer when I travel (to keep up with my email and copy all my image files to it at the end of each shooting day)
Since you're apprehensive on bringing the huge dSLR during vacation, I don't think it would be a good idea to go on with it. I'm guessing you would prefer to enjoy the break more with your own senses rather than document it. When the time comes that it would be the other way around, you won't ask anymore. You will know exactly what to do then.
I always take my DSLR on holiday; what's the point of having one and not using it on festive occasions!
OK, it is a little more inconvenient to lug it around but the results are worth it.
