What type of camera should I bring to Costa Rica?
I'm going to costa rica this summer, and I'm not sure if I should bring my DLSR (nikon), or my 35 mm film SLR (minolta)
Or should I bring both?
I won't be going with my family, and therefore will be responsible for carrying my things with my all the time.
I was thinking of just taking my film SLR for artistic purposes, but will I miss out if I don't bring my DSLR?
How safe is it there?
Bring the camera you like the best. Just be aware of your surroundings and you will be fine. I just have travelled in Venezuela for 3 weeks with a big DLSR.
I would take your DSLR.
That gives you much more storage for taking hundreds or even thousands of pictures!
It's safe, just don't leave it lying around or it will be stolen.
You don't say where you are going. You will need to carry them with you as leaving stuff in the car is risky almost everywhere but you can usually leave things at the hotel at the front desk for example.
Do not bring film, the heat and humidity can destroy it, plus I'm not sure of too many places that actually sell film anymore down here. It is a relatively safe country, but petty theft does happen. So, don't leave it lying around, keep it close to you at all times. When out in public do not let it out of your sight either. Turn your back and it will be gone, this goes for anywhere in the world. Happened to my husband in the States.
I haven't been to Costa Rica but I have been too Nicaragua and Honduras which are safe. I would bring the cheaper of the cameras. Do they still take good clear photos?
