RAW images on Nikon 1?
So, I've heard that the RAW images on the Nikon 1 are very good. If I were to buy one, how would I take RAW images with it? And, what is the difference between jJPEG and RAW?
Don't bother buying a 1. Get a D3100 or Rebel T3 instead. To put it simply, RAW images are not processed by the camera. JPEGs, right after being taken, are processed by the camera (sharpening, WB, etc).
RAW is always going to produce better images since you have control when you process them
JPEG image files are processed in the camera and once you have set the white balance and other processing parameters, that is what you are stuck with, at least for that image.
With RAW, you can process them one way today and a few years later, process them a totally different way with the latest and greatest photo software.
It is normally an ca era menu option to choose, RAW or JPEG file format.
The lab tests in this article use the RAW images from each camera

RAW allows more freedom for adjusting exposure and colours particularly for difficult situations with uneven light
