About a month ago i loaned my sd card to a friend to take pics on his Nikon (I have a Canon), and that is when my pictures have started not showing up on my computer. But they show on my camera. I'm using a SanDisk card. What should I do?

You can share your SD card, but before you do, you have to remove all data and then format the card using the camera that will be used to take the photos. Once returned to you, you must insert the card into your camera and reformat it. Not formatting the card before using it in a different camera will cause the corruption of the card's file system.

If you put the card into a USB card reader and you can't see the photos via your computer, then you have to use some kind of data recovery software. Otherwise, download them onto your computer and the format the card using your camera and only your camera. Never use a computer to format the card because this will corrupt it.

Does the SD card not show up on your Computer, or just the photos?

Questions:

* Did you format the card in your camera when it was returned?
* Are you removing the memory card from the camera and inserting it into the card reader on the computer?

The workflow should be as follows

* At the end of each shooting day, the card needs to be inserted into your computer's card reader
* Using your computer skills, all the image files need to be copied to a new file folder named for the subject/location and date.
* Once all the image files are safely on the computer, remove the card and insert it into your camera and using the format feature on the camera, format the card.

NOTE: Forget that your camera has a delete button. Deleting image files to make more room on a card is the number one cause of file and card corruption

Follow the steps above routinely and you should never lose any image files.

You can't safely share SD cards on more than one camera without the file structure becoming compromised.

Save what photos you can on back up media and reformat that card in yoour own camera.
