Advice on buying a new nikon lens please?

Hey guys I have a nikon d7100 and I'm looking at getting a new lens. I currently have a 50mm. I shoot newborns, glamour, family's and large groups. My budget isn't very high. It's only about 500. I have in mind the sigma 17-70 mm f2. 8-4 but I'm not to sure if it will give a good sharp photo. I haven't tried many lenses before so I can researching. And as we all know with lenses there's good and bad reviews on anything these days. Is anyone able to help me out here please? Just tell me a couple and I will do some research.

Why my Nikon SB800 speed light explodes during photo shoot?

I had a 3-day photo shoot, about 6 hours and 400 photos each day. I used 5 Duracell Ultra Advanced and an rechargeable external battery, everything was fine until the end of the third day, I switched to Duracell Quantum, after 10 shots I heard a "pop" and I saw the plastic melted a bit. I was able to turn the speed light on and off and see all the functions but the light is gone.

I'm not sure what happened. Was it battery issue or my speed light is over used? Also my speed light is about 10 years.

And can I have it repaired?

Your professional advice is deeply appreciated.

Good camera for photography purposes?

I don't just give me brands please (Nikon, Sony, etc). List a specific camera. Something that takes good Night time photos of stars and the moon. I'd like to keep the price under $1200.

Also, are there places that give you the option of paying monthly notes on the camera like Aarons does with their laptops and systems?

Nikon Tamrom 28-75mm 2.8 Lens

I'm looking for a zoom lens for a very small wedding. I have a Nikon D7100 with the kits lens 18-105mm. I also have two prime lenses 35mm 1.8 and the 50mm 1.8. I was looking at the Tamrom 28-75mm 2.8 but the reviews are with all scattered opinions…

Has anyone really tried it out? Is it very noisy? Slow to focus? Good in low light? Sharp images?

Suggestions on any other lens suggestions that won't break the bank?

Got a new Canon 70D with 18.135mm kit lens. Is a 35mm 14 L lens a worthy second lens?

I previously had a nikon d5200 with kit lens and a 35mm 1.8 prime. Sold that set to try something new with canon and upgrade to a a more pro consumer camera the 70D.

I liked the 35mm since it was sharp, nice bokeh and acted as a nifty 50 on a crop sensor.

thinking of going all out for canon 35mm L 1.4 lens.

Is it a good prime lens to invenst it? Or put it towards like a 24-70mm 2.8 L?

Upgrading lenses. Which to get?

I'm a natural light photographer who specializes in children, senior, engagement, and family photography. I'm planning on using my tax return money to upgrade my camera to a full frame sensor and upgrade my lenses. I currently own a 50mm 1.8 and an 85mm 1.8 (all nikon products). I thought that the 50 1.4 would be great for my natural light studio sessions (as my studio is a tight sunroom in my home). But the 85 1.4 would be great for my outdoor sessions. I can only choose one or the other… Which would you suggest?
