Recommended digital cameras?

I've been interested in photography for a while. I'm finally taking a photography class. The instructor said to get a camera with decent aperture and something elseā€¦ I can't remember.
First, what exactly is DSLR? I know it's digital single lens reflex, but what is so special about it, and can you get interchangeable lens with them?
Also, what are compact system cameras? Those seem more expensive.
What about cameras with a flip out/around screen?
I also want burst mode.

It seems like a lot of questions, but I really want a decent one. Any suggestions?

What is the difference between these cameras?

Example: the Nikon D3300, D5300, and D7100, all vary wildly in price

the 3300 is cheaper while the 5300 is considerably more expensive and the 7100 is way out of my budget

why such a wide range in prices

is the D7100 that much better than the 3300?

I want to utilize a batch of cheap webcams as standalone surveillance cameras?

These are usb cameras, made by Hercules for Ubisoft or some such (packaged for the Wii). I opened one up, there are maybe 3 ics and a bunch of other (passive) components mostly. Obviously this can be done readily with a single board computer with usb ports and an sd card slot. Can anyone make any recommendation?

Would also like to alter the firmware in my Nikon L105 camera to make it record longer then 30 minutes of video. Need help. Would I be endangering the hardware by doing this? IOW would the extra heat be detrimental? I imagine a fan installed in a judicious fashion would alleviate that.

Best Bang for your Buck Compact Camera?

What's the best bang for your buck compact camera
i'm looking to get a new one
i want to spend under 300

i want to be able to shoot full hd videos, because i do alot of videos and vlogs, also want the image quality to be great! Doesn't have to be perfect i know it won't be a dlsr but i want most of the manual controls like a dslr has. I also need it to be able to fit in my pocket

features i'm looking for but doesn't HAVE to have

hdr, panorama, pop up flash(not a big deal), RAW, long exposure, FD filter would be nice but not a big deal either

couple i'm looking at nikon p330/340
pentax mx1(cheapest out of all)
lumix lf1 and lumix lx7 a little out of my price range but if they are worth it then maybe

and the cybershot hx50 looks like a good one

Would the Nikon d5300 good for sports?

I have been researching a lot and I believe I'm going to get a Nikon d5300 as my first DSLR. The other camera I was heavily considering was the t5i, but the Nikon seems to slightly have the edge. If you disagree let me know. The one thing I'm concerned about is how the Nikon will preform when shooting sports. Will the AF be satisfactory? Can the camera track fast moving subjects well enough? I will be photographing some sporting events at my college so I want a camera is good when shooting sports. How do you think the d5300 is at this? Would you recommend anything else?

How to get super macro on Nikon?

I know Canon has a super macro lens (5:1). Is there an adapter I can get to make it fit on Nikon camera, since Nikon doesn't have any super macro lenses? The only thing I've heard is to reverse the lens and attach another lens, but this leaves virtually no depth of field(2-3mm). So what's the best way to get super macro with a Nikon?

Which one to choose between Nikon D3300, Olympus OMD EM5, Canon 1200D?

Please suggest the better one among these 3. I'm a beginner and my needs are for landscapes, people, macro and night mode. Does the Olympus give better image quality than Nikon D3300? Really confused between these two.
