Old nikon lens compatible with digital?
I have an old nikon f photomic camera, and wondered if the 50mm lens on it would be compatible with newer digitals.
The old F mount cameras need to be converted to the newer AI type mount. This can be done with some metalworking by hacking away part of the aperture ring to make them fit. Doing so will let the lens mount, and work, but you will not have any metering functionality and will have to do all of your settings manually.
Some of these f lenses are quite collectors items, and can be pretty valuable. If you do the conversion, it will ruin the collectablity. Before doing anything to the lens, I would take it to a camera shop and see if it has any value. If not, either throw it away or do a google serach on how to machine it to fit.
Non AI Nikkors will not fit most Nikon digitals (I assume Nikon but you did not say). You can actually damage some Nikon digitals trying to mount an older lens that lacks the AI cutout.
