Nikon SLR Cameras

Nikon or Cannon Rebel?

I'm looking into buying a camera for myself this Christmas (well it would be a gift for me from parents) but I need to know what I want. I really love the Nikon 311 with the zoom lens it comes to almost $800. I love big cameras and noticed this is not as large as i expected. I have not really looked into the Cannon Rebel because I know Nikon is usually a better quality picture? Help me please, It would be my first real camera. BUT! I have used friends cameras many times in the past to take cool pictures. I want a camera that takes professional pictures of people, and nature. So please let me know what you think. Link included are a plus!

First, nikon does not provide a better quality photo over canon. They are essentially equal. Second, what is a Nikon 311? Finally, the size of the camera is meaningless if it does not provide you with the functionality you need. You really need to read a couple good books about DSLR cameras to understand them better if you expect to pick the right one for you.

I have the NIKON 3100 its around $700 comes with 18 mgp lens and it takes fantastic nature and people photos, I'm a published freelance photographer and this camera can be used not only as a point and shoot for everyday life but an amazing professional grade camera for amazing quality photos every single time.

At my high school we had Nikon and Cannon cameras and I also used to play around with my friend's Fuji SLR. I just bought a new Cannon Rebel (for about $500 and a really nice zoom from a pawn shop a couple years ago for about $200) and before that I had an older version on Cannon. But if you are going to shoot professionally knowing how to use the settings is all that matters. So you don't have to worry too much about what takes better pictures just go to the store and mess around with different types until you find one that seems most natural to you then learn how to use it off auto because they are all different.

My suggestion would be Nikon D3100 14.2MP Digital SLR Camera. Its for sure a GREAT camera and it comes with 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 AF-S DX VR Nikkor Zoom Lens for about $540.00 from Amazon. Thats the best price i could find. I suggest you read this review to aid in your decision:
