Hey does anyone have a nikon one and do they recommend it?
I could use some sample pictures you took with it so I can see the quality. If you know any similar cameras let me know!

For the price of any camera from the 1 series, you could buy a D3100, an entry-level DSLR… If you want a compact camera, than a 1 or Coolpix P7100 will be fine.

Vastly overpriced point and shoot with interchangeable lenses. NIkon took a stab at the market owned by the Sony NEX and the Oly PEN cameras, and blew it. Waste of time and money.

For the money, the NEX is better deal.

A lot has happened since the first "plastics" were introduced.

Now we call the carbon fiber skins on military aircraft as a plastic. The plastic materials now used in building cameras is actually more rigid and stable than the old mostly metal camera designs, so don't worry about any camera being "plastic"

Actually the Nikon 1 is a wholly different form factor than the EVIL cameras made by Sony and others.

It is going to fill a niche that is basically for those who want the ability to use interchangeable lenses, yet don't want the bulk… Want a camera that will fit into a purse or briefcase with a spare lens.

Only time will tell, but one of my colleagues loves her "little Nikon". When on assignment she shoots with a couple of Nikon D3s cameras

I really love mine. It's like a DSLR without the hassles of a DSLR. 10MP images are sharp and big enough for almost all printing. Video is exceptional. There are only a few lenses available currently (a useful set), but Nikon has committed to a full line of lenses and accessories for the One.

Nikon built this to fill a gap. Phones have destroyed the point-and-shoot market. So Nikon decided to create a camera that's a step up from point and shoot without the hassles and learning curve.
