How to use a pc as a camera storage device?

I want to make a time lapse video, I'm going to shot in RAW. I don't have a memory card big enough to hold all the files, is there a way to use your pc as storage without having to intervene, as I don't want to interrupt the camera. (so I'm basically using the pc as the SD card) I'm using a Nikon d5000.

Seeing that cards are quite cheap these days, maybe buy a bigger capacity card.

A time lapse video really isn't from recorded full motion video. It is a series of still shots taken at specific intervals. Playback is then done in rapid succession so that it appears that time is sped up. Unless you are doing something that occurs over the period of minutes as opposed to days or months, you should have plenty of time to download the images collected to a hard drive.

Well it's done by tethered shooting, however it would require you having a computer on location, so generally this would require a laptop.

Firstly you should install the Camera Control 2 software that came with your SLR, with this software when you plug in your camera (via USB) you should then be able to control the camera from your computer, and have the data sent directly to the selected folder on your computer.

It's probably useful if you have a long USB cable, and also look for an AC adapter for your camera too.
