Nikon D7100 Continuous Shooting? - 1
I want to do a timelapse of the night sky. So I put my D7100 out there with settings:
30 seconds, f1.8, 18mm, iso 400, continuous shooting.
I then attach my cable trigger, press the button down and lock it.
This works fine for 100 photos, but Nikon's D7100 has a 100 photo limit. My timelapse is only 4 seconds with 100 photos. How can I make it go for longer? (at least 400 shots). I've tried the built in interval meter but it's buggy sometimes and locks up the camera.
There's a setting in your Menu called "Max Continuous Release." By default, it's set to 100. I suggest reading your User's Manual for more details.
Continuous shooting mode is absolutely the wrong way to make a time lapse. Use the built in intervalometer which allows 999 shots. I'm guessing you haven't learned how to use the intervalometer on your camera. If you aren't giving enough time between the shots, then it will skip. If you use a 30 second shutter speed, try setting the interval to something in the range of 35 seconds. Experimentation is necessary. Also, be sure noise reduction is turned off (see page 228 in your manual) as this can double the shooting time.
