Nikon 35mm f1.8 vs 50mm f1.4 lens?
I'm having trouble deciding between these two lenses, I will be using it mostly for general picture taking, some landscapes.
Just wondering peoples opinions on the two…
50mm for general, 35mm for wide angle shots when you don't mind distortion. I've always preferred a 28mm-210mm zoom for all use.
I assume you have a crop body. The 35mm is the lens for you. It's a bit more versatile, lighter, and cheaper.
As a general lens, the 35 is a little more versatile but if you like to shoot people, you may like the 50mm more. I'd get the 35mm, then an 85mm and then the 50mm. With a 35 & 85 you can shoot most anything provided it's not too far away.
I'd get the F1.4. I'm assuming you have some sort of basic zoom lens.
Neither is wide enough for landscapes and neither is wide enough to be a good walk-around lens. Assuming you already have an 18-55 or some sort of kit lens, tape it to 35mm for a week or two and then tape it to 50mm for a while and see which is more useful to you.
