What is the difference between a Nikon AF-S 50mm f/1.8G and a Nikon AF-S 35mm f/1.8g lens?
My wife is looking at buying a lens for her camera. She takes photos in area. Which aren't always well lit, she needs a lens which will perform in dark areas and also in the light. She takes photos in hospital rooms during birth and also pregnancy shots and then the newborn shoots. Does anybody have any feedback?
The 50mm has a narrower field of view and shallower depth of field. Neither lens has image stabilization. Camera shake will look less visible with the 35mm.
The 35mm lens is also a DX lens, while the 50mm lens is FX. This is only important if you have a full frame Nikon (and if you do, you would probably not be asking this question).
The 35mm lens will also have a slight amount of perspective distortion, but you may not notice it.
It would be better if your to camera shop. And take some photos with both lens in low light conditions.
I guess taking shots during birth she needs to keep a respectful distance away. That means 50mm - the 35mm will mean getting too close other than for a general wide shot.
