Need a new Nikon Lens to take pictures for a Baptism?
What occasion or event would you use the following lens?
Sigma 70-300mm f/4-5.6 SLD DG Macro Lens for Nikon
Nikon 35mm f/1.8G AF-S DX Lens for Nikon
Rokinon 85MAF-N 85mm F1.4 Aspherical Lens for Nikon
I can only buy one because of my budget but wanted to know when you would use the lens I listed.
Sigma 70-300mm - Long distance shots, when you have lots of light or time available for a longer exposure, e.g. Long distance wildlife shots,
Nikon 35mm - Med/Close shots, when you don't mind losing depth of field in return for very fast shutter speeds, such as for moving people.
Rokinon 85MAF-N 85mm - Med/Long distance shots when a short depth of field is acceptable in return for fast shutter speed. Wouldn't recommend using this indoors as it will be reasonably zoomed in.
70-300 mm - Sports, action and some wildlife
35 mm - I would never use it.
85 mm f/1.4 is a fully manual lens. The lens is manual focus and the aperture needs to be controlled directly from the lens and you know what that means.
Sadly, you neglected to tell us what subjects you intend to shoot. Different lenses are needed for different subjects and shooting situations.
If you already have a 18-55 mm lens, you may want to buy the Nikkor 55-200 mm and use it until you can better understand the value of different focal lengths as they pertain to the subjects you tend to shoot
For clarity, only the 70-300 mm lens is a zoom lens. The others are what are called prime lens, that is to say a lens with a single focal length, so you can't "zoom in" using the 85 mm lens
Sigma 70-300mm f/4-5.6 SLD DG Macro Lens for Nikon
Junk lens… I own it for Canon.It. Good for outdoor sports or wildelife but it. Far too slow foa dark church setting.
Nikon 35mm f/1.8G AF-S DX Lens for Nikon
Good portrait lens on a cropped sensor camera (equivalent to 52mm… The standard focal lenght). Opens wide at f1.8 so good for isolating your subject with a shallow depth of field or in low light situations.
Rokinon 85MAF-N 85mm F1.4 Aspherical Lens for Nikon?
For a baptisme, 24-70 f2.8, 70-200 f2.8, 50mm f1.4. If you can't afford to buy it, rent it (30$-40$ each for the day/weekend).
