My nikon camera turns black when I turn it on?

The green light turns on when you usually turn it on but the screen is entirely black. It was working just a few weeks ago but now it won't.

Press the disp.button on the back of the camera

1.Remove the battery, memory card and lens from the camera. Digital cameras need power to operate.

2.Clean the battery compartment and lens contacts on the camera. Moisten a cotton swab with a small amount of rubbing alcohol.

3.Clean the contacts on the battery, using a swab moistened with rubbing alcohol, in the same way you cleaned the contacts in the battery compartment.

4.Replace the lens on the camera, and install an empty memory card and the battery that was removed.

5.Install a new battery if the previous steps did not result in the camera turning on.
