Where are cool places to do photoshoots in NYC?

I'm planning on going to the NYC area with a friend for a photoshoot, and I was wondering where there were some interesting places to shoot at?

I usually do cliche backgrounds like beaches, graffiti walls, train tracks and parks. Any interesting places or ideas?

Please help!

(PS for anyone who was wondering I do portrait photography and have a nikkor telephoto zoom lens)

I take it you have never been to Manhattan.

Just a few minutes in mid-town you will be overwhelmed by cool places for background.

Start at Grand Central, then Times Square, then maybe the New York City Library and Battery Park. There are literally thousands of amazing, well known backgrounds you can use.

Just be sure to have your Student ID with you so you don't get hassled by the law. If you are shooting portraits for money, you will be required to buy a permit to take photos within the city limits

Why?

I guess, EVERYWHERE.
