How to do photoshoots with Nikon D60?

I've had my DSLR for about 2 years now and I'm learning something different everyday. My main subject is my godson so I practice alot on him lol. I want to venture out and do photo shoots for friends and maybe start taking pictures at parties, etc. I only have 18-55 mm lens right now, and I recently got Photoshop CS5

For a photoshoot (indoor and outdoor) what do I need, or specific settings to use, etc?

Also if you know of a good site for DSLR tips, tricks please let me know thank you

As a former D60 shooter I can tell you that this little camera is completely capable of taking lovely shots. First off, for new DSLR users I recommend picking up a 50mm lens. Now, with D60, if you want to get the 50mm 1.8 your going to have to manual focus because, as you know, the D60 doesn't have an internal focusing motor so with lenses that lack AFS, your left doing it yourself. Which, really, isn't all that bad. You really start to learn how to work with shallow depth of field and how placing your subject accordingly.
I totally disagree with the above poster that you need to go out and invest in a bunch of expensive lighting equipment to get good portraits. It's just not necessary for someone just starting out. Or even a seasoned pro if you decide you prefer working with natural light.
So overall, picking up a few more lenses (I'd also suggest maybe a non Nikon 24-70 2.8, like a Sigma, to learn how to work with zooms), getting out and practicing with more people, learning the absolute ins and outs of your camera, and soaking up knowledge where you can find it and you'll be fine.
