Is the Nikon 24-85mm f4-5.6 VR weatherproofed?

Is it weather sealed? I mean I won't shoot in the rain, but are they equal to Canon L lenses? Can it can survive a short dash through rain? On a weather sealed body like D600 will it work?

The 24-85mm f/4-5.6G ED VR has a weather seal on the mounting ring like many of Nikon's newer lenses. However, Nikon's literature does not advertise this lens as weather-resistant.
Modern lenses are generally sealed to a degree against dust, if for nothing else, so a short dash through a light rain or mist followed by a quick wipe-down will probably do no harm. However, why would you risk it when a plastic bag and a rubber band can essentially eliminate all of that risk?
