Nikon SLR Cameras

Is the nikon 1 considered a professional camera?

I'm not trying to get another professional camera because I don't have the skills for it nor do I want to be a photographer. I've seen someone with this camera and it takes very nice pictures like one of the dsrl cameras would do.
Is the nikon 1 like some type of digital camera or no? I do know its more advanced though. Its pretty expensive. What do you guys think?

Heres a picture of it: http://www.nikonusa.com/...-1-J1.html

I just want a new camera that I can take pictures with. (but in the long wrong can use it for modeling, thats if I still go with that plan.haha).

NO

The only "professional cameras" made by Nikon are the cropped sensor D300 and Full sensor D3s, D3X and D4 cameras

The Nikon 1 is strictly a super compact camera with interchangeable lenses and a sensor that is much, much smaller than ANY professional camera

While a pro could certainly produce pro quality images using one of the Nikon 1 cameras, they are not designed for the heavy use a pro expects from their cameras without any problems (one million shutter cycles before sending it in for a new shutter).

Nikon 1 is one of those next generation cameras that might potentially replace the slr. It's a mirrorless camera, which means there's no mirror or view finder. What you see on the lcd screen is what your pictures will turn out to be.

Some people might say it's not a professional camera, some people say it is. I personally think it is. The sensor on the nikon 1 is the same size as a dx camera others like leica made a mirrorless camera with a fullframe sensor. The big difference between a dslr and mirrorless is the size. Because there's no mirror to accommodate you can shrink the size of the camera.

The big downside is that there aren't many lenses for it yet. In time though that will change and I'm pretty sure the collection of lenses for the nikon 1 will grow.

Professional? Some of us don't even consider it a camera.

It's a compact, until you put a lens on it.

It lacks the viewfinder that makes an SLR so big, clumsy and useful.

So it's neither small enough to slip into a pocket and forget until you need it, nor flexible enough to do the thousand things you want from an SLR.

Not even close! It's a EVIL camera. Electronic Viewfinder Interchangeable Lens. Little more than a high level point and shoot with lens that you can change. It's Way over priced.
I looked at one and didn't like it. It's an insult to the Nikon name. It doesn't have a viewfinder you can look through, or a hot-shoe for a flash. I found it had a cheap feel to it, and was hard to hold.
You'll be much better off with a Nikon D3100 which sells for the same price.ot serious, just leave it on automatic and let the camera do the work / thinking for you.
EDIT: The Nikon 1 is NOT a Professional camera! And no one who knows about cameras will tell you other wise. The sensor is MUCH smaller.
See the man who is the #1 answerer? Listen to him. He knows what he is talking about.
