What is considered to be a good fashion photography lens for a Nikon D90? - 1

Is it possible to get a zoom lens that is made for sharp portrait shots especially for full body?
side note: the D90 has a 1.5x crop sensor

I usually use the Nikkor 24-70 mm f/2.8 lens when shooting models.

At 24 mm you can still shoot at a good working distance, yet because you are using a cropped sensor, you will not get any distortion common when shooting people with a moderate wide angle lens.

If you are using Lightroom 3, you can correct for any curvilinear distorting using the Lens Correction under Develop and activate the "Enable profile corrections". This allows Lightroom to use known profiles for various cameras and lenses automatically.

To assure that the color of the fabric is a near perfect as possible, you can use the Xrite Colorchecker Express.

Here is how that works.

Primes;
50mm f1.8
85mm f1.8

Zooms;
24-70mm f2.8
70-200mm f2.8

Out of those I use the 24-70mm most often in the studio.

For the D90, a good alternative is the Tokina 28-80 2.8.It costs around 350.00 on ebay, and is a real good lens. I'd prefer the Nikon 24-70 2.8 over the Tokina, but 350.00 vs 1500.00 is the difference.

Another good lens to look at is the Nikon 35-70 2.8, it's an older lens, but is a lot cheaper than the 24-70, around 450.00.

For primes, the main three lenses with a full frame are 85mm F1.4, 105mm F2 and 135mm F2. You want to get a zoom that will cover most of that range, and have a 2.8 aperture.
