Is Sony a good DSLR brand?

I'm looking into buying a DSLR camera. Are the Sony DSLR cameras good or should i just stick with Nikon and Canon?

Yes.

Sony is alright, but the only reason why they are in the DSLR business is because they bought Konica/Minolta some while back. Minolta made amazing film cameras, Sony simply made them digital and never really expounded on the possibilities

Nikon and Canon however, together, own about 75-80% of the DSLR market share and are at the forefront of the DSLR technologies, therefore, the bests.

It's a good brand, but I've never been a big fan of them. The lens market is a bit lacking for me. I personally love prime (fixed focal point, non-zooming) lenses, and Sony doesn't offer much there for under $1, 000. Additionally, most of their equipment seems a tad bit expensive for what it is, and there isn't much in the room of upgrade paths compared to Nikon and Canon.

So, in short, I'd stick to Nikon and Canon.

I don't think Dr. Iblis has a clue about who is at the forefront of technology. Perhaps he can tell us which Canon or Nikon camera has all of this in one single model?

A translucent mirror?
The fastest auto-focus for a video dSLR?
Incredible frame rates at that price?
Auto HDR?
3D Sweep Panorama?
Electronic viewfinder?
Digital Level Gauge?
GPS?

The Sony A55 does and the Sony A33 has it all except for GPS.

The fact is that Canon and Nikon are stuck producing old dSLR technology, right now Sony is miles ahead.

Just another bunch of clueless Canikon users that have never held a Sony, never mind used one.

Yes, they're good, but Canon and Nikon are oldest in Digital SLR area, so I'd stick to them.

Canon EOS XS, XSi, T1i, T2i and Nikon D3100, D5000 and D90 is what I recommend.

EOS Integrated Cleaning system and Canon-designed Self Cleaning Sensor Unit, plus Dust Delete Data Detection in included software
