Nikon SLR Cameras

Is a DSLR (Nikon D750) camera really that much better than the iphoneX? Is it worth it?

Looking to buy the D750 camera by Nikon but keep second guessing myself if it's worth it. I know many will say it depends on what you want it before but just overall, does it take better pictures because of the bigger sensor and everything they can do. What all can you do more of on the DSLR over the iPhone which looks pretty professional.

It depends on how you use your camera, what you want to do with it. Do you want to control shutter speed and aperture? Do you want to decide for yourself what part of the scene to focus on, and whether to blur out a background or make it sharp? Do you want to be able to shoot in low-light conditions? Do you occasionally want to use a wide-angle or telephoto lens or to be able to zoom in and out to frame a picture?

The advantage of an iPhone is that it's always with you, so if something happens you can pull it out and usually get a great picture to show your friends, or even a short video to post to YouTube. The advantage of a DSLR is that you can choose to be more involved in photography, to 'design' your photos rather than just accept what the camera decides.

And these days, if you really want to have control over your pictures, the camera is only half of it. The other half is Photoshop or other photo-editing software.

Here's a video of someone using Nikon's flagship full frame and crop sensor bodies with a telephoto lens. Both cameras have state of the art auto-focus capabilities and really, too many other things to mention, that will destroy your iphoneX!

In absolute terms, any DSLR is capable of blowing any phone out of the water, but;

It takes time and experience to learn to get the best out of a DSLR, are you willing to start from scratch?

You don't NEED a full-frame camera like the D750 to produce photos you'll be proud of - again once you put in the time and effort. A cheaper cropped-sensor model will serve you just as well.

Don't get fixated on Nikon. Everyone has a manufacturer they prefer (mine is Pentax), look at all of the candidates within your budget.

Skillful editing is, indeed, part of the learning-curve.

If you're willing to learn (and make mistakes along the way) a DSLR can do wonders for your photography, but if you're planning to use it as a glorified phone, you'd just be wasting your money.

Its not the camera that takes good pictures so if you want to learn photography get the Nikon. If just don't care get the phone. I've seen people take gawd awful pictures with an i-phone and a dSLR.

I would go for a Pentax, but the same principle applies in any case:

Any DSLR is better than any camera in a phone As Long As you learn how to use the DSLR properly.

Taking good pictures depends far more on the skill of the person operating the camera
than it does on the brand and model of the camera.

Hand a $50 throwaway camera to a professional photgrapher
and a $7,000 DSLR to a complete newbie,
and you will find that the cheap camera can produce pretty good images for its price
while the high-dollar one might not.
