The two major differences are that the D5200 has built-in Wi-Fi and GPS and has no anti-aliasing filter
Those of us who have the Nikon D800 have spent the extra $500 for the Nikon D800E which also lacks a anti-aliasing filter
The most important improvement for me was the processor… The D5200 is a decent enough camera… Some critics felt that the processor couldn't cope with the 'spec' of the camera and this is thought to be the reason Nikon upgraded it so quickly… Wi-Fi and GPS don't even register on the radar when i'm looking for a camera. Nikon is getting some stick (criticism) for spitting out new consumer level cameras too quickly… Most of the improvements on the new 'consumer' models aren't what you would describe as ground-breaking and are considered by most to be 'cosmetic' not necessary…
