For a beginner, I would recommend a Nikon D3000.It's about $300, which is cheap for a DSLR. It doesn't take videos, and has adjustable lenses. If you want videos or get something that will help in the long run, I highly recommend a Nikon D3100.It's a step up from the 3000, and costs a bit more also. You should go research these cameras on Wikipedia to really narrow down what you want. Hope I helped!

For start up you should go with canon t3 or nikon d3100

10 megapixels? I bet you've never read anything about them or know the definition, but you believe what the companies say. More don't make images better, it's a bad myth so companies can sell more cameras. DSLRs with even 1 megapixel would be better than the highest megapixel P&S camera.

What's your brand? And telling you which brand to go with is not helpful either. I say Canon, someone says Nikon. It won't help you atll. Both brands are great.
