I can't teach you in a few words, here, but you can Google 'food photography' and get several good web sites that have excellent instruction.

Try using a light tent to get soft diffuse lighting. You can make one - instructions here;

Use a tripod too - allows slower shutter speeds so you on't get camera shake.

Example of mine using a home made light tent;

If you want something a little more textured - try having the light come from one direction;

That is not a photo, it is a collage of multiple photos.

Look, you don't buy a camera and then automatically become a photographer. You need to study and practice. Go on the web and learn about exposure. Read your owner's manual. Get books from the library on composition and exposure.

And… Take lots of photos. Sure, you can start out on automatic, but move to the semi-automatic modes. Take multiple photos of the same subject using different settings. Ten go back to the photos and see which ones you like the best. Look and see what settings you used for those photos. That is the best thing about digital for learning, the camera records the settings. So you can see what you did for one photo and carry that into the next time you are in a similar situation.

Honestly trial and error. The last answer or the one above me is right just because we get a camera one that does more then what we can comprehend is amazing. I have had one for over 5 years now and i learned a lot. Still got a lot to learn yet. Play with lighting try different things. Refuse to use auto mode and see what happens.
for the love of photography it self. Don't let people on here hamper your passion. Understand that it does take time and your working on it.
keep it up and play with the light in your home.

So, you bought an expensive camera and two lenses without knowing how toi use them!
I suggest you first read the instruction manual thoroughly two or three times so you know exactly how the camera works.
Buy/borrow books on Food Photography. It is almost a separate branch of photography because it needs to be treated differently. You can't just "pick it up" in a few minutes; you have to study it and make the right preparations.

I'm not sure what you are finding so unique in those photographs…

I can tell each scene received very defused lighting. Also, depth of focus is quite a bit, and most were probably taken with a fairly wide lens. But other than that, there aren't all that much involved. Oh, I can tell definite lack of color cast, so whomever did those photographs took care of that very well.

To get that kind of defused and even lighting, you have to use a very large light source. You can do this by draping a white cloth over your window on a sunny day, OR find a cloudy but bright day. Then when ever ugly shadow shows up, use reflectors to counter act them.

Lighting is half science and half art. It is impossible to tell you how to do it in a small space available here.
