How many megapixels is 6000x4000 pixels?
I was at target today, playing with cameras, and I took a self portrait of myself with a huge Nikon and it is 6000x4000 pixels. It said nothing about megapixels, and i love looking at up close photography.
Any camera experts? (I do know that photography doesn't mean megapixels, but it does to me!)
Did you do the math?
6000 x 4000 = 24,000,000.
24 megapixels is plenty enough resolution for anyone.
I'm a working pro and my two cameras have 12 mp sensors, a Nikon D300 and D3. Over 12 years ago, I was shooting professional assignments using a Nikon D100 with a 6 mp sensor, plenty of resolution for magazines and newspapers.
Apparently they quit teaching basic arithmetic in schools.
24 megapixels.
Yes, megapixels is not everything, but it does help to have more in general. However, if the sensor is small, more megapixels can actually hurt image quality. More on this at the source below.
Brendan… Photography doesn't mean megapixels to anyone… Knowing how to get the most out of the megapixels is what counts.
You might think it's cool to buy a 24 megapixel DSLR camera… You won't think it's so cool when you realise that you are going to have to spend another couple of thousand on lenses that give you crisp clear shots.
Experienced contributors on here constantly try to get this point across… It doesn't matter what the specification is… If you don't know what you are doing… Basically… If someone gave you the latest Nikon D4s with the best glass/lenses on it… With some luck you might get some decent images… Experienced photographers don't rely on luck… It's the photographers skill and experience that creates quality images not the camera.
