How large can I blow up a 4, 608 pixels x 3, 072 pixels picture?
I'm new to the photography world. I shot a picture with my Nikon D3100, and the photo has a width of 4, 608 pixels, and a height of 3, 072 pixels. What is the maximum I would be able to blow this picture up to print and frame?
Added (1). I shot the photo in JPEG I believe. Is there any way this could be blown up to a poster size (20 x 30)?
Added (2). Can it be blown up larger than 20 x 30? If so, what is the largest approximately?
I think you might be able to get a 16X20 out of that
It depends.
If you shot in JPEG, you can probably make an image that is 20 inches on the longest side with no worries.
If you shot in RAW and after processing saved the image as a TIFF, you can make much larger prints, 2x3 feet is not uncommon at all.
20 x 30? You're totally fine. That will look great on 20x30!
It depends on several factors besides resolution, but lets consider the maxim size if the image was captured with adequate sharpness, good focus, and lack of noise.
Using Photoshop it is very easy to increase the resolution by 200% with little to no loss of quality using the resize tool properly.
At that you could get the following size prints.
300 dpi (offset press) = 20X30"
200 dpi (standard output for most commercial photo printers) = 30X45"
100 dpi (canvas and watercolor papers) 60X90"
If it's sharp and not shot a really high ISO you will be okay at 20x30
