Nikon D100 and D5000 performance?

Ignoring the fact that Nikon D100 was released many years ago and Nikon D5000 is a new series in the Nikon family, which one is actually performing better in overall. For example picture quality, pictures' detail and the camera button.

While the D100 performed quite well in its day, there's usually nothing that can beat new technology.

The D5000 has many more features than the D100 two of which are important.

1) The white balance fine tuning similar to the Nikon D300 and up
2) It can shoot RAW + JPEG, an important feature when shooting images that may end up being published or made into large prints.

Okay, now that I have answered your question, look instead at the new Nikon D3100.It has THE most bang for the buck.

D100s can be had very next to nothing these days and if you don't need speed and are happy shooting jpegs (the cam is very slow shooting in TIFF mode, no NEF) it's a great back up camera.

resolution is low by todays standards, though still enough for an A3 print.

It's also more compatable with older Nikon lenses with aperture rings and conventional AF.
