Thank you.

Added (1). Thanks, I really don't know that much about cameras, so I appreciate your help. I bought the Vivitar lense at a garage sale, and got it cheap. (I also bought a Minolta xg-m camera. The lense doesn't have much information on it, therefore i don't know if its designed for nikon. It says "Vivitar macro 1:5x No.09726940."
Any more information out of that?

Added (2). Oops. I missed a part. It's a "Vivitar 70-210 mm 1:4.5-5.6 MC Macro Focusing Zoom Ø52 mm"

Is the Vivitar a F-Mount (for Nikon)?

Vivitar is a 3rd party, and if it is designed for Nikon, it will fit and work. Depending on the age of the lens, it may not have Autofocus or exposure programming capability, so you may have to use it in manual mode.

Also, some lenses are called "macro" by unscrupulous lens manufacturers, and what is called macro may in fact only be a close up lens. If it is specified as having a macro 1:1 magnification, then it is truly a macro. If it is anything less; macro 1:2 (with the second number larger), then it is not a true macro, but more of a close up lens.

The difference between macro and close up is how large you can make the subject in your photos.

The only way to be certain is to mount it and then you will know. If it doesn't fit, you would be better off selling it than finding a way to make it work.

If you bought it with a Minolta, it's probably in MD-mount, it may even say this around the mount.

I wouldn't be surprised if there's an adapter, but you'd lose so many functions it probably isn't worth it.
