How does the Nikon D300 compare to the Cannon D7?

How does the Nikon D300 compare to the Cannon D7?

I can't answer this directly but you will have more luck Googling for reviews if you note that it is not
"Cannon D7". The camera to look for is the Canon EOS 7D.

Never heard of the "Cannon" brand.

The EOS 7D is better than the D300 in every aspect. Remember, the D300 is very old. Resolution, ISO, video, contrast, color, etc. You name it. The 7D is way better.

The D300 is a 2007 model - the D300 was updated in 2009 is now called the D300s. The 7D is due for replacement now and the D400 will be here soon, too.

You will probably find a lot more information if you searced for Canon (one N) 7D.
It's an interesting match up. The D300 has marginally better AF, is built better. The 7D has a better viewfinder, and can shoot at 8FPS straight out of the box (the D300 needs D3 batteries and a special vertical grip). The 7D has definitely got the advantage in image processing, though the two sensors are closely matched in terms of overall performance.
The 7D does bring video to the game, but the D300S also has video, both cameras have wireless flash commander capabilities. So all in all it's a close match.
You shouldn't discount a couple of the old warhorses either, the Canon 5D mkI and the 1Ds mkII are both interesting options which bring a full frame sensor to the game. The 1Ds mkII is also a great deal stronger than 7D, 5D and D300. Also worth considering is the 1D mkIII, this is the fastest of the lot and has the best AF by far, the sensor isn't full frame and resolution and you're not going to get wall sized prints from it, but for just under £1000, a second hand 1D mkIII is an impressive option.
