Does the Nikon D300 have a live screen view?
I'm thinking about buying the Nikon D300 but I read that it doesn't have a live screen to look at before you take a picture. Is this true that i can't look at a moving picture before taking a picture. I do not really like looking thought the little eye spot at the top.
No, it's a professional camera and they don't do that. You want to "snap" buy a cheap point and shoot.
The feature that you're looking for is called live view. That eye spot is the viewfinder. It's far superior to live view. The reason is that you get a real time image and the autofocus will be much faster. Also, having the camera held to the forehead gives you a steadier position than holding it with the arms stretched out.
If you don't want to use the viewfinder, then frankly, you have no business buying a $1300 (without lens) D300.It would be heretical to use this venerable camera like a point and shoot one… And it indeed does not have live view. It's successor, the $1700 (without lens) D300s however has live view.
Or is it the $500 D3000 that you have in mind? If so, then just get the D3100.It has live view and is a much better camera in general than the D3000.

You likely don't like the optical viewfinder because you have not much experience in using it. Once you gain some experience, you'll find that it is the best way to go.
