What all purpose lens do you suggest for my d3100? I was thinking about the 18-200. I'm going to buy a full frame body maybe when nikon realese a replacement for d700, d300s, or d7000 so any all around lens that i could use for my d3100 and for the future as well.

I have had the 18-200 for five years, but I recently bought the 28-300 full format (FX) lens and I love it. Yes, you give up a bit on the wide end, but it is really nice to have a 300mm lens on my cropped sensor. The 28mm is close to a "normal" lens on our cameras, but it is a moderately wide lens for an FX camera.

Oh yeah! I use a D300 now and have used a D200 in the past, so our sensors are the same size.

Yes the 18-200 mm VR is one I use for about 90% of my editorial work used on a D300 camera

The D300(s) and D7000 cameras are NOT full frame cameras.

I can use the 18-200 mm on my D3.It automatically crops the frame for me.

There's a full frame inequivalent of the 18-200 mm camera. It is the new 28-300 mm lens.

But for now, I would save my money and look into that camera when you eventually buy a D700 or D3

A 35mm prime… A f/2 one, ideally but settle for f/2.8.

You can buy the 18-200 vr this is an excellent lens
but if you want a proffesional looking pictures get the 17-55mm 2.8
the 18-200 is a great lens but you do not want to do proffesional jobs with unless you do not have enough money to buy the full fram and 24-70 2.8 plus 70-200mm 2.8
the 18-200 is a lens to travel and do not carry 5 lenses
family gatherings and stuff the pictures are great but not like the pro jobs
if you buy a full frame get prime lenses and the 24-70mm 2.8

The 18-200mm is a reasonable all purpose lens but it is a DX lens 0 it will give you a cropped image on a full farme camera. Out of those you listed, only the D700 is full frame.

The 28-300mm might be a better option for now as it will still be useful on FX later.
