Nikon D90 all purpose lens. Will the 18-105 VR Kit lens do?

Truthfully there's no all purpose lens, if you want one thing then you sacrifice another. Some people will consider a fast 24mm or 35mm lens as all purpose because the 1.8 aperture brings different capabilities to the game.
