Will the Nikon D3000 be the right camera?

I'm 14 and I want to be a photographer I currently had the Nikon D3000 for a little over a year I wanted to sale that one on eBay and invest in a new camera but we can't right now (too much money). I want to take some pictures at Disney's Magic Kingdom and put them in a photography contest but I want them to look really good and not pathetic! Any suggestions? Is this a good enough camera to use any tips is appriciated

You should be asking "Am I good enough?" because the camera only does what you tell it to. Do you know how to work all the settings? Do you have some ideas for some interesting angles for shots? It's all about you. Sure there will always be better cameras out there that take slightly better pictures but if you don't know how to work it then it's virtually useless.

There's nothing you can't do with the D3000 that buying an updated camera will do.

What you need to do is spend what little money you have on a second or third lens.

I still use a dSLR from time to time that was purchased in 2002 and except for its poor low light performance when compared to a current D300, it performs very well.

If the images you are making with your fine D3000 are pathetic, buying a new camera will NOT help

Here are two shots taken with the nine year old Nikon D100. What do you think? Did I need a newer camera to shoot those?

Just keep the D3000 and in a few months buy a new lens or two. Putting your current lens on a new body is pointless.

The D3000 is a decent entry level camera. You'll probably get maybe $300 for it if you sell it.
Whether or not you can take photos good enough to enter in a photo contest depends on your ability as a photographer, not the camera.

Actually, the camera is perfect for you to learn with. All you need to get better quality pictures is new lenses aside from the kit lens. Quality is in the glass not the camera body. Don't pay attention to how many mega pixels it has, that only determines how big the camera can make the images.
