Will the nikon 35mm lens fit my nikon d40 nikon body?
Will the nikon 35mm lens fit my nikon d40 nikon body?
I don't think so.
Is it an AF or AF-S 35 mm lens?
If it is a AF-S lens, then it will fit and auto-focus on your camera
If it is a AF lens, then it will fit, but you will have to use the electronic rangefinder on your D40 to focus the lens
Any Nikon F-mount type lens will fit on your D40, so the lens in question can be used. If you are using an older manual lens, you'll have to get used to manual focusing and metering. Have fun.
Yes.
How compatible it will be depends on the lens.
But it will at least fit, and you will be able to take a photo with it.
Depending on the lens, you may have to manually focus the lens, and you may have to put the camera into manual exposure mode to use it. Or if the lens is new enough, you may have to do none of these things.
If you are referring to the current AF-S 35mm f/1.8DX lens that Nikon sells, yes it is 100% compatible with your camera.
Fit, any Nikon lens made after the late 70's will fit, but functionality will vary.
AF-S - full compatibility
AF, AI-P - Auto exposure is fully compatible, no autofocus
AI, AI-S, AI (modified) - no AE, no AF. Exposure by histogram only.
Pre AI - won't fit.
